A position responsible for performing a variety of duties depending on whether it is a small clinic, large medical practice, multi-clinic, or a specialty office. They may be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks, provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services, and may be assigned to a specific medical specialty department (e.g., pediatrics).
Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), Medical Assisting diploma from an accredited vocational institution, a community college program in medical assisting. Appropriate certificate indicating passing grade for specific specialty if working in specialty departments; e.g., pediatric medical assistant exam.
Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Experience with Electrocardiogram (EKG), taking vital signs, venipuncture, capillary and giving injections.
Other Requirements: Current documentation of a national certification for the registered medical assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or for the certified assistant through the American Association of medical Assistants (AAMA). Must possess a current CPR certification and current health records with the appropriate immunization to work in the health care field (Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis).
