Job Description

Desert Orthopedics, of Praxis Health, is seeking an experienced Athletic Trainer/DME Coordinator for a full-time float role.

 

This individual will be responsible for providing athletic training services on an ongoing basis as well as properly fitting DME products and teaching the patient how to use them. Control inventory physically and via the automated inventory software. Charge patients appropriately and collect payments and deposits according to protocol. The individual in this position performs a wide variety of duties requiring specific knowledge of the clinic’s policies and procedures. S/he is expected to meet the clinic’s professional, clinical, technical, communication and documentation requirements and standards and to make decisions based on established guidelines.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops and cultivates contacts with referring physicians, businesses, schools, coaches and other referral sources.
  • Utilizes appropriate, sound and up-to-date clinical techniques to effectively assess and treat athletic injuries.
  • Provides athletic training services to patients and athletes as required.
  • Provides patients and community education in the areas of sports injury prevention and care.
  • Provides input as to the fitness and conditioning status of athletes.
  • Completes all training documentation in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates pre- and post-participation exams and acquires protective equipment for athletes as needed.
  • Provides athletic training services at sponsored sporting events.
  • Assists orthopedists in the treatment of patients with sports and/or orthopedics conditions, non-operative and pre- and post-op care.
  • Works with clinic staff to develop and implements the outreach program.
  • Ability to travel with US Ski and Snowboard team up to 4 weeks per year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to duties of medical assisting, i.e., prescriptions, phone calls, paperwork and physician scheduling.
  • Ensure proper fitting and instructions to patient on how to use DME.
  • Control computerized inventory and ensure ordered inventory and billing balance.
  • Order DME supplies.
  • Ensure that DME script is obtained for billing purposes and scanned in patients chart.
  • Ensure the patient signs a proof of delivery when receive the product, or refusal agreement they decide not to get the DME prescribed.
  • Obtain signed ABN from Medicare patient on non-covered services.
  • Completes prior authorization for DME.
  • May participate in DME A/R follow up.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Reps, coworkers, supervisors and physicians.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel: Travel between the three clinics in Bend and Redmond

 

Candidate must comply with all state, local and federal rules, guidelines and requirements with respect to safety and health. This includes, but is not limited to any mandates with respect to the COVID-19 virus, such as PPE, testing, or vaccination rules, absent a legally recognized need for accommodation. Such accommodation requests should be promptly submitted to HR and will be reviewed and approved based on the circumstances presented.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and current Oregon NATA Licensure.
  • A minimum of 2 years athletic training experience preferred.
  • Strong experience and knowledge in DME products and fittings.
  • Prior authorizations and DME A/R follow up experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPAA requirements.

Other Requirements:

  • Certified fitter of orthotics preferred, but not required.
  • Current health records with the appropriate immunization to work in the health care field. (Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis).

General Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25
pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee will work under stressful conditions. Employee will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.

This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids and/or tissues. All employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis-B vaccination series.
