Praxis Health has developed an apprenticeship program, partnering with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), to give individuals an opportunity to gain an education and employment simultaneously.

 

The outline is along the lines of a certification program you would seek at a community college, but in this position, you will receive paid, on the job training while you gain real-life experience caring for patients and assisting doctors and other health care professionals on your path to becoming a Medical Assistant.

When you receive a Clinical Medical Assistant Certification from the NHA, employers will know completion of the program is meaningful and rigorous work potentially positioning you ahead of others. The NHA has created a partnership with onsite learning that supplies tools to help create success within healthcare to build higher standards for the medical assisting teams. The list below is examples of the guided training you will receive throughout the first year:  

  • NHA P360 Vitals provides facilitators with on demand access to NHA study material engagement and performance data to easily target individuals needs in the areas that matter most prior to exam day. This encourages the success of our team and dedication to making you as an employee successful.
  • Focused review prior to exam day
  • Collaboration and team building throughout the program
  • PersonAbility application to build soft skills and build confidence in communication, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and professionalism.
  • Medical Terminology and Anatomy + Physiology courses with embedded pronunciation, practice activities and videos.
  • Each participant will receive a detailed pacing guide from day 1 of employment to completion of the CCMA Exam.
  • Completion of CPR certification
  • Obtain a CMA role within Praxis Health

In this role, you will work side by side with the healthcare team and MAP program to assist physicians/providers in the delivery of exceptional patient care all the while achieving your certification on the job.

Travel: Travel between Central Oregon Clinical Sites 

 

Essential Job Functions: are the fundamental duties of the position, the things a person holding the job absolutely must be able to do with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned that may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screening per provider guidelines; assisting providers/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls, and providing pertinent information.
  2. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately;
  3. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; keeping appropriate inventory records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  4. Fulfills the organizations responsibilities as assigned including; respecting and promoting patient’s rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and or staff with immediate supervisor.
  5. Fulfills medical scribe duties as assigned that may involve remaining in the exam room alongside the provider and providing accurate, relevant documentation within the electronic medical record; thoroughly documenting the medical visit and procedures along with the chief complaint, medical history, physical exam, past surgical history, patient education and explanation of risks and benefits, provider dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions.
  6. Fulfills clinical Medical Assisting responsibilities that vary according to state law, which may include medical/surgical asepsis; checking vital signs or measurements; physical examination preparations, clinical pharmacology; drug administration through various routes including injections; prescription verifications with physician's orders; applying dressings and suture removal; bio hazard waste disposal and monitoring; therapeutic modalities; instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics and home care; laboratory procedures including Occupations Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA) guidelines; quality control methods; CLIA-waived testing; specimen handling such as urine, throat, vaginal, stool, and sputum; emergency triage and first aid. Medical Assistants must adhere to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory.
  7. Fulfills other duties as may be assigned based upon evolving needs of the employer.
  8. Reliable attendance and presence at work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Incumbent will earn Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification through NHA by completing required education program and achieving a passing score upon 1 year of hire.

General Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, crawl, bend, and twist. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires walking on non-level surfaces, inside and outside the office, throughout the day.

Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings.

 

OSHA Category
This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids and/or tissues. All employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis-B vaccination series.
